About Us

Oakhurst Medical Center was founded in 1980 to provide health care services to the uninsured and underserved residents of the Oakhurst section of the city of Decatur in south DeKalb County.

We now own and operate our Stone Mountain Facility as well as a recently acquired Decatur Clinic. Oakhurst Medical Center is the only federally funded community health center based in DeKalb County. With support from the federal Bureau for Primary Health Care, OMC serves uninsured and medically underserved residents in the county and surrounding communities at its clinic locations in Stone Mountain and Decatur.

One of the first locations in Decatur was in the basement of Oakhurst Presbyterian Church. Recognizing that the factors which challenge and impact one's quality of life are numerous in both scope and nature, we participate in a number of collaborative relationships designed to extend the scope of our services and to establish a continuum of care to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Oakhurst's partners include but are not limited to The Dekalb County Board of Health, Morehouse School of Medicine's National Center for Primary Care and Institutional Research Board, The Dekalb County Community Services Board, Grady Health Systems, Morehouse School of Medicine, The Atlanta Coalition for Access to Care, The Georgia Association for Primary Healthcare, The Healthy Dekalb Coalition and Women's Watch Africa.

Oakhurst provides a complete array of primary healthcare services for all of the life cycles inclusive of Prenatal, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Mental Health and Eldercare. As a Federally Qualified Community Health Center, Oakhurst's services are provided on a sliding fee scale (according to income and family size) to all who enter our doors. In a society here the availability of and access to medical care is becoming a daily challenge for a growing portion of the population, Oakhurst is uniquely situated to respond to this need.
